Two Victims Revealed in the Providence Campus Incident as Law Enforcement Persist in Manhunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in Saturday’s tragic incident at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their shooter carried on following the discharge by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also expressed sympathies publicly, saying in part: “There are no words. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a memorial statement.

What Happened

Nine more persons were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated late Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a search at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.

“There is a killer at large,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you need to change course and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last approximately one day.”

Community Anxiety

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our public”.

The shooter discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the engineering facility on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a police source informed the news agency.

Law enforcement that searched the inn recovered two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was detained, as was reported.

The Wounded Victims

Of the nine hurt, a single scholar was allowed to go home, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private K-12 school in North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Tributes were paid to Cook at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only in her youth... but at Brown she was a shining example in that institution as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the group. “She was famed for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she worked for her branch and fellow classmates,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by Umurzokov’s death in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to his relatives, companions, and fellow students and grieve for of his bright future.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic college with about over seven thousand undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, took place amid one of at least 392 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in the current year, according to records. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
