PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
